14th Stop: Paris, France. Fille Française

On March 22 we received pictures from Flat Lily and another French friend, Claire. Like Cyril, Claire is also a former intern from Lily's French school in St. Louis. Claire took Flat Lily on a tour of the City of Light, Paris!

First they visited Saint Jacques Tower. Originally part of the Church of Saint Jacques de la Boucherie (Saint James the Butcher), the tower was completed in 1523 during the reign of King Francis I. In 1797, during the French Revolution, the church was destroyed. Saint Jacques Tower is the only part of the original church that still remains.

Next they visited Shakespeare and Company, an independent bookstore in Paris' Left Bank.

After that it was off to the most iconic symbol of Paris, the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower was built in 1889 as an entrance to the World's Fair and is the tallest monument in Paris.

Then Flat Lily and Claire saw the famous Catholic church Notre Dame Cathedral. The cathedral was completed in 1345 and is the inspiration for Victor Hugo's Hunchback of Notre Dame.

The final stop of Tour de Paris was Fontaine Saint-Michel. The fountain was a major project during the French Second Empire.

Thanks so much for showing Flat Lily the sights of Paris, Claire! We know that Flat Lily's next stop is also in Europe. But where will it be?
